About
The Virginia Federation of Humane Societies (VFHS) is a non-profit organization founded in Virginia in March of 1959. VFHS is about “Serving People Saving Animals” – our membership includes animal welfare organizations such as humane societies, SPCAs, rescue groups, sanctuaries, animal control agencies, animal caregivers and individual supporters across Virginia. VFHS’s mission is to lead an alliance committed to providing mutual support and to acting collectively as the voice for animal welfare in Virginia.
VFHS is devoted to collaborating with and providing resources for our members to improve animal welfare. Primary among our goals is reducing the euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals in Virginia. We believe that this is possible and strive to work with our members to create the resources to reach this goal: increasing access to affordable spay/neuter options; increasing access to education and information; supporting trap-neuter-return (TNR) as a humane means of caring for and controlling our community cat population; and advocating for legislative and other solutions to the problems of animal cruelty and pet overpopulation.
